State Advocacy

Advocating on Your Behalf

OHA serves as the statewide advocate on behalf of its member hospitals.  In the fall of each year, the Council on Policy and Legislation discusses and proposes the OHA state advocacy agenda, which includes proposed legislation as well as positions of support or oppose on bills important to the provision of health care in Oklahoma. The OHA Board of Trustees votes formally on recommendations of the Council on Policy and Legislation.

The OHA staff maintains a daily presence during the legislative session at the state Capitol from February through May.  Once session is concluded, the staff attends and monitors rule making authority by state agencies to implement laws.  An annual legislative report that is produced each summer as well as regular Hotline stories, Advocacy Alerts, and Voter  Voice are all tools that are used to provide member hospital staff with up-to-date information.
