Posted on: 7/26/17
Chuck Spicer, FACHE, president and CEO, OU Medical System, Oklahoma City, was recognized last week by the OHA board directors for having been selected last May as a 2017 Grassroots Champion by the American Hospital Association (AHA).
Each year, the AHA, in conjunction with the state hospital associations, recognizes the achievements of grassroots leaders with the prestigious Grassroots Champions Award.
One hospital leader from each state is honored for his/her work over the previous year in effectively delivering the hospital message to elected officials; helping to broaden the base of community support for hospitals; and advocating tirelessly on behalf of patients, hospitals and communities.
Spicer has worked in executive capacities with the OU Medical System for more than 12 years and is a longtime member of both the AHA and OHA. He currently serves on the OHA board as chair for the OHA’s Oklahoma City Region and serves on OHA’s Council on Policy and Legislation. He served on the OHA Council on Education from 2006 until 2008.
Spicer has been very active in the advocacy efforts of the OHA, working to advance important initiatives to strengthen the provision of health care in Oklahoma. He supported the OHA’s legislative activities during the 2016 and 2017 legislative session in many ways, including conducting news interviews and press conferences on key issues.
The AHA Grassroots Champion Awardees are recognized each year at the AHA Annual Meeting in May.
