OHA’s Work
Healthy Hospitals (WHH) program staff, a grant program of TSET, presented at the Southern Obesity Summit (SOS) in Oklahoma City on Oct. 29. The SOS is the largest regional obesity prevention event in the U.S., drawing participants from 16 southern states. The theme of the conference this year was “Improving Systems to Promote Healthy People and Resilient Communities.”
Sydney Tomlinson, OHA’s health improvement initiatives specialist, presented about how the WHH initiative takes a holistic approach to addressing wellbeing. The presentation highlighted how the initiative adopts an innovative systems approach to addressing employee health concerns, including obesity, by targeting nine dimensions of well-being. The WHH approach includes issues affecting obesity, such as nutrition and physical activity, but it also empowers health systems to adopt broader thinking when it comes to factors affecting employee health. WHH incorporates other elements that impact employee health, such as employee resiliency, emotional and financial wellbeing, psychological safety, and job satisfaction.
The mission of the Work
Healthy Hospitals (WHH) initiative is to help Oklahoma hospitals create an environment where employees can holistically thrive. Since 2013, WHH has worked with more than 40 hospitals statewide and impacted over 26,000 employees in Oklahoma. For information on how your hospital can be part of WHH, contact Tomlinson at
