Active Shooter Prevention, Response, & Recovery
Description:
Violence has a tremendous impact in the workplace. According to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics, 16% of all workplace fatalities result from
violence. The FBI identified 434 active shooter incidents involving 444
shooters in the United States that occurred between 2000 and 2021. Of
those, 16 incidents occurred in a health care environment, resulting in 67
casualties. While the incident will be over in minutes, there are steps
organizations can take to better prepare for these scenarios to help reduce
the chance of occurrence, minimize the number of casualties and manage
the impact. This dynamic environment and its potential for violent disruption
has hospital leadership searching for solutions that will protect their staff
and patients.
