Introducing WorkHealthy Hospital Spotlight series
Posted on: 10/17/18
Work
Healthy Hospitals (WHH), a grant program of TSET and an initiative of the OHA, is starting a regular series in Hotline featuring various hospitals participating in the WHH initiative. This series will highlight hospitals whose unique efforts encompass the spirit of employee wellbeing and stand out from the crowd.
Hospitals that participate in the WHH initiative focus on improving policies, benefits, and workplace environments that best support their employees’ overall wellbeing. In short, their efforts go toward making the healthy choice the easy choice for their employees. These efforts, in turn, can lead to better patient care, employee satisfaction, and health visibility within the community.
The Work
Healthy Hospitals initiative started in 2013 with an assessment that included four dimensions of wellbeing: Culture, Nutrition/Food Environment, Physical Activity, and Tobacco Freedom. As the science of workplace wellbeing and the needs of Oklahoma hospitals have changed, so has the focus of WHH. The WHH assessment, education, and resources now encompass nine dimensions: Culture, Health Risk Assessment & Outreach, Nutrition/Food Environment, Physical Activity, Tobacco Freedom, Emotional/Mental Wellbeing, Financial Wellbeing, Incentives/Communication, and Evaluation.
Additionally, WorkHealthy PRO is an upcoming enhancement to the existing initiative to incorporate a focus on purpose, resiliency, and ownership among health care employees. WorkHealhty PRO serves to bridge the gap between individual wellbeing and the hospital’s wellbeing with regard to workplace factors such as productivity, employee satisfaction, and employee loyalty.
The first Work
Healthy hospital spotlight will feature one of WHH’s Excellence hospitals, Arbuckle Memorial Hospital, and will appear in next week’s Hotline. To reach Work
Healthy Excellence, a hospital must demonstrate how it has implemented the most effective level of culture that supports employee wellbeing in all dimensions of the Work
Healthy assessment.
