A contingent of five hospital leaders from Oklahoma attended the American Hospital Association (AHA) Annual Meeting and Capitol Hill visits earlier this week in Washington, D.C. Attending were
Jay Johnson, OHA board chairman, president & CEO, Duncan Regional Hospital;
Shari Murphree, CEO, Willow Crest Hospital, Miami;
Richie Splitt, president & CEO, Norman Regional Health System;
Bruce Lawrence; and
Patti Davis, OHA president.
The AHA used a revamped agenda and energized the format at a new location, the Marriott Marquis. The lineup of incredible speakers included Senate Majority Leader
Mitch McConnell, Speaker
Nancy Pelosi, Presidential Historian
Jon Meacham, and
Colin Powell.
Oklahoma hospital leaders met with
Rep. Frank Lucas,
Rep. Kendra Horn and
Sen. James Lankford. Meetings were also held with the staffs of
Rep. Markwayne Mullin,
Rep. Tom Cole, and
Sen. Jim Inhofe. Topics included the need for financial stabilization in Medicare, workforce issues related to addressing health professionals shortages, the 340B program, extending the disproportionate share program, and bills to strengthen rural hospitals.
Members of Congress will be coming home on April 15. This is an excellent time to work on developing relationships with your congressional leaders.
