WorkHealthy Hospitals (WHH), an OHA initiative and program of TSET, has awarded two hospital campuses in the Norman Regional Health System (NRHS) with the WHH “Excellence Recognition.” This award recognizes Norman Regional Health System, Porter campus, and Norman Regional HealthPlex for having implemented the most effective level of culture that supports employee wellbeing.

“Norman Regional’s mission is to be the leader in health and wellness. And wellness starts with our employees, who we call healers. With the right tools and programming in place, our organization empowers them on their journey to better health and wellness,” said Richie Splitt, president and CEO, Norman Regional Health System. “From rewarding healers for going to a wellness visit with their primary care provider to encouraging movement during meetings, our wellness team emphasizes fun, achievement and personal engagement.”

The NRHS Well@Work offerings and activities were implemented in 2002 and have continually evolved to meet employee needs. In their six years of participation in WHH, the NRHS wellness team worked diligently to reach the Platinum level in all nine dimensions of WorkHealthy standards. These nine dimensions include culture of wellness, nutrition/food environment, physical activity, tobacco freedom, emotional wellbeing, financial wellbeing, health risk assessment & outreach, incentives/communication, and evaluation.

“The Norman Regional Health System demonstrates that a healthy, positive work environment can be achieved by any organization that recognizes their employees are valued and their most important asset to achieve their mission,” states Eric Finley, OHA health improvement initiatives manager. “They have successfully set a high standard of wellbeing by prioritizing the improvement of the culture of wellness for their employees. This success is built upon their innovative ability to interface WHH infrastructure changes with their existing Well@Work initiative, enhancing both efforts together. Their commitment to employee wellbeing then impacts the quality of patient care. OHA is honored to partner with the Norman Regional Health System.”

Since 2013, the WHH initiative has touched more than 45 hospitals statewide and impacted approximately 26,000 employees in Oklahoma. For information on how your hospital can be part of the WorkHealthy Hospitals initiative, e-mail the WorkHealthy team at [email protected]. (Sydney Tomlinson)
