SQ 802 legal process is continuing

Posted on: 12/20/19

As you recall, the Oklahoma secretary of state certified that the SQ 802 campaign collected 299,731 signatures, which is 14.7% of the voters in Oklahoma. The attorney general also rewrote the ballot title. The next step is for the secretary of state to publish notice in a newspaper of statewide circulation for 10 days and for any resident of Oklahoma to bring a challenge based on the number of signatures collected or the ballot title.

Publication of notice began Tuesday, Dec. 17 and ends Friday, Jan. 3. If a challenge occurs to the ballot title, a legal process will occur in which ultimately the State Supreme Court rewrites the ballot title.

Meanwhile, the work on SQ 802 proceeds as it will be on the ballot in 2020. You will be hearing more from OHA on ways you can assist after the holidays.
