Mercy Hospital Ardmore is the third hospital to be featured in the OHA’s WorkHealthy Hospital Spotlight series. This series features various hospitals participating in the WorkHealthy Hospitals (WHH) initiative, a grant program of TSET. Featured hospitals’ efforts encompass the spirit of employee wellbeing and stand out from the crowd. Mercy Hospital Ardmore is a WHH Excellence hospital, which means they have demonstrated best practice implementation in all dimensions of the WHH assessment.

What sets them apart…

Mercy Hospital Ardmore takes an innovative approach to their employee wellbeing efforts by interfacing WHH’s sustainable infrastructure recommendations with their already established Mercy Healthification system-wide wellness program. This approach enhances both efforts to best support their employees. Healthification consists of individual biometric measures, wellness resources and programming, and hospital goals for all Healthification efforts.

Mercy Hospital Ardmore is also unique in having an employee solely dedicated to its employee wellness initiative, thus highlighting the importance of employee wellbeing in the hospital. Wellness coordinator for Mercy Hospital Ardmore, Tina Norton, participates in monthly calls with Healthification leads from other Mercy hospitals in addition to participating in regular WHH events and taking the online WHH assessment.

Recently, Mercy Health shifted from being solely focused on culture change to adding results-based programs with employee biometric screenings. For example, Mercy Hospital Ardmore’s goal this year is to provide programs that support the lifestyle changes for Mercy co-workers to achieve improvement in their annual biometric screenings. Each year, the Healthification team reviews goals and objectives and makes modifications based on current results as well as employee needs. The employee wellbeing efforts at Mercy Hospital Ardmore are guided by the following mission:

“We are committed to serving Mercy by creating a culture of health and well-being with a focus on developing innovative strategies, building strategic partnerships and encouraging positive lifestyle changes.”
