High-risk OB policy change proposed
Posted on: 7/19/19
The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) is proposing a rule change to improve access to care for obstetrical-related SoonerCare services in rural Oklahoma.
Pregnant SoonerCare members deemed high risk may, with medical necessity and prior authorization, receive follow-up ultrasounds and up to five fetal non-stress tests and biophysical profiles. Under current OHCA rules, documentation of medical necessity for these services must be provided by a board eligible/board certified maternal fetal medicine (MFM) specialist or a board eligible/board certified obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN).
The proposed rule would also accept documentation provided by a board eligible/board certified family practice physician who has completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved residency. The medical residency program must include appropriate obstetric training and the physician must be credentialed by the hospital at which they provide obstetrical services in order to perform such services.
The proposed rule, identified as APA WF# 19-12, will be posted for public comment on
OHCA’s Policy Blog web page.
