Law effective Nov. 1 requires new birthing hospital discharge instructions

Posted on: 10/18/19

Due to the passage of SB 419, which will be effective on Nov. 1, hospitals that provide labor and delivery services will be required to provide to new mothers complete information about perinatal mental health disorders, including its symptoms, methods of coping with the illness and treatment resources.

Physician practices seeing pregnant and postpartum women are required to offer a screening for mental health and postpartum depression issues.

The Oklahoma Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative has developed resources for this requirement. The document contains links with materials and resources for you to add to your discharge instructions. To read the bill, click here. (LaWanna Halstead)
