ONA and OONE form practice partnership, send letter to governor with solutions for surge nurse staffing

The Oklahoma Nurses Association, along with the Oklahoma Organization of Nurse Executives and Nursing Education Deans and Directors jointly formed the Oklahoma Academic-Practice Partnership to create a response to Oklahoma’s nursing shortage. The problems brought on by Oklahoma’s long-standing nursing shortage were serious enough to create the need for this partnership. However, the pandemic has made the nurse staffing problem significantly worse. 

In recent weeks, this partnership exclusively focused on staffing shortages as a direct result of COVID-19. This partnership has worked to share resources with each other that include utilization of nursing students and extending the arms of the bedside registered nurse.

Yesterday, the group met with the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the governor’s office to discuss their concerns. For more on that meeting, read this KFOR news article.
