OHA to participate in Oklahoma COVID-19 vaccine distribution planning group

Posted on: 10/2/20

OHA staff is beginning to get inquiries about the COVID-19 vaccine. The U.S. government will be purchasing all of the available vaccine and distributing through the CDC to the states via the state health departments. All states are in the process of developing their distribution plan under the guidance of CDC.

OHA has been asked to participate on the Oklahoma state vaccine planning group, organized by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

There will be an enrollment process for providers that are interested in giving the vaccination to their employees or the public. Even if you are already a provider of vaccine via the Oklahoma State Immunization Information System (OSIIS), you will still have to enroll to be a provider of COVID vaccine. There are still many questions to be answered, including the type of vaccine Oklahoma will receive.

The planning group will be asking OHA to communicate issues to the hospital community and between the health department and OHA, we will do our best to keep you informed.

Health care workers providing direct inpatient COVID care are in the first tier to be recipients of the vaccine. The majority of the vaccine will possibly be available early next year. (LaWanna Halstead)
