OHA partners with Telligen for HQIC patient safety initiative

Posted on: 2/12/21

OHA is partnering with Telligen for the patient safety/quality improvement work previously known as HIIN (Hospital Improvement Innovation Network).

On Sept. 18, 2020, CMS selected Telligen as one of nine Hospital Quality Improvement Contractors (HQIC) to work with hospitals (especially rural and critical access hospitals) on the most challenging health care issues facing hospitals and communities today. The work will focus on:
• Improving behavioral health outcomes, with a focus on opioid misuse.
• Increasing patient safety, with a focus on reduction of harm as well as readmissions, and COVID-19.
• Increasing quality of care transitions to achieve high quality outcomes in the acute care setting and across the care continuum.

While CMS created a list of eligible hospitals to participate, OHA and Telligen also invite any interested Oklahoma hospital to join.

The many advantages in partnering with OHA/Telligen HQIC include receiving the following at no cost
• Simplified data collection based upon Medicare claims (and not requiring individual hospital data collection and entry);
• Customized technical assistance, actionable data with national benchmarking, data analytics support, and evidence-based resources, from OHA clinical initiatives staff.
• Access to free educational opportunities, including learning collaboratives using the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) Breakthrough Series Model, focusing on best practices.
• The ability to network with others stakeholders committed to quality improvement, including other hospitals, state hospital associations, nursing homes, behavioral health providers, local health departments, and community-based organizations.
• Having a single partner for QI assistance on initiatives within hospital walls (HQIC) and beyond hospital walls (QIO). Telligen is also the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Oklahoma.

Please be aware that CMS guidelines allow hospitals to partner with only one HQIC. We invite you to participate with OHA and Telligen for this new hospital improvement project
