Hospitals respond to weather crisis

Posted on: 2/19/21

Hospitals across the state have faced numerous challenges this week in dealing with the effects of the winter snowstorm and extremely low temperatures. OHA commends the many hospitals who have swiftly dealt with everything from generator failures to low water pressure and much more.

After a water main break, Hillcrest Hospital Pryor successfully evacuated 11 patients around midnight Monday night. Hospital staff did a great job quickly getting EMS transport and moving patients to other Hillcrest facilities. All patients were moved within an hour.

Mercy Hospital Tishomingo has also faced heavy challenges this week. Following a fire suppression system problem, rolling blackouts and a generator failure, the hospital was forced to evacuate patients and close temporarily. Staff have moved quickly to resolve problems and a back-up generator is on the way, while repairs are made on a boiler issue.

We are certain there are many similar stories across the state. As always, Oklahoma hospital personnel have risen to the challenges. Please keep us informed about ways that we can assist you more during this difficult week.
