WorkHealthy Hospitals (WHH), a grant program of TSET and an initiative of the OHA, has awarded Norman Regional Health System (NRHS) with the WHH Excellence Recognition. This award recognizes the hospital for having implemented the most effective level of culture that supports employee wellbeing.

“Norman Regional calls our employees healers and the health and wellbeing of those healers is vital to our organization,” said Richie Splitt, president and CEO of Norman Regional Health System. “These past two years have highlighted the importance of taking care of our healers so that they in turn can give their best to our patients. Through innovative programs, policies and teamwork, Norman Regional is shaping our culture so our healers can be healthy in both body and mind.”

The NRHS has been actively engaged in WHH for eight years, and its health promotion specialists, Amber Browning and Gloria Moran, continue to demonstrate statewide leadership in their efforts. The system utilized the WHH assessment for both Norman Regional Hospital and Norman Regional HealthPlex campuses, which provided a comprehensive view of the policies, benefits, and environment offered to hospital employees. Through continued innovation and dedication to its healers, the NRHS received WHH Excellence for the second time since 2019.

“The Norman Regional Health System demonstrates that a healthy, positive work environment can be achieved by any organization that recognizes their employees are valued and their most important asset to achieving their mission,” states Sydney Tomlinson, OHA health improvement specialist. “They have successfully set a high standard of wellbeing by prioritizing the improvement of the culture of wellness for their employees. Their commitment to employee wellbeing then positively impacts the quality of patient care. OHA is honored to partner with the Norman Regional Health System.”

Since 2013, the WHH initiative has worked with more than 45 hospitals statewide, impacting nearly 27,000 employees in Oklahoma. For information on how your hospital can be part of the WorkHealthy Hospitals initiative, e-mail Tomlinson at [email protected]. (Sydney Tomlinson)
