OHA is excited to announce that our clinical initiatives department has received a grant from Telligen Community Initiatives to support health care workforce development in Oklahoma. The grant provides scholarships for 20 qualified hospital professionals to become certified either as a Certified Professional in Health Quality (CPHQ) or Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC.)
This project was funded in part by the Telligen Community Initiative to initiate and support through research and programs, innovative and farsighted health-related projects, aimed at improving the health, social well-being and educational attainment of society, where such needs are expressed.
The impact of this workforce development opportunity will increase health care provider access to evidence-based educational resources and will improve job satisfaction, staff retention, and patient outcomes. Eighty percent of the scholarships will be awarded to rural hospitals in counties with a population less than 90,000.
The scholarship will include preparation tools (online preparation, study guide) and monthly webinars facilitated by a consultant. Additionally, the cost of the national certification exam will be reimbursed upon successful completion with the project period (July 2019 - June 2020).
Applicants for the scholarship must:
- Submit a fully completed application;
- Meet the core educational and work experience requirements specified by the certifying body for exam eligibility;
- Submit documentation signed by senior leadership, verifying employer awareness and support for the applicant, including designated time to participate in webinars, coaching calls and mentoring as well as leave time to take the national certification exam;
- Submit verification that current job responsibilities include the scope of work included in the national certification exam (i.e., quality or infection prevention and control responsibilities);
- Complete a pre-project job satisfaction survey.
Scholarship recipients will agree to complete on-line training modules and test questions, participate in at least 80% of the monthly webinars, successfully complete the national certification exam within the project period and complete a post-project job satisfaction survey.
A maximum of one CPHQ and one CIC scholarship will be awarded to persons from the same hospital. Persons previously certified as a CPHQ or CIC are ineligible, as this scholarship opportunity does not provide support for meeting recertification requirements.
