SoonerCare MCO design comment period extended

Posted on: 8/14/20

On Aug. 13 the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) extended for a few days the public comment period on design for their planned Medicaid comprehensive managed care program.

OHCA is developing a request for proposals (RFP) from qualified managed care organizations (MCOs). OHCA intends to use MCOs to deliver care to the Medicaid expansion group, covered next year thanks to the passage of State Question 802, along with the already covered children, parents, and pregnant women. Individuals enrolled in SoonerCare due to their status as “Aged, Blind, or Disabled” (ABD) will initially remain in fee-for-service coverage.

The RFP will be released this fall, with implementation planned for Oct. 1, 2021. OHCA is establishing requirements and is seeking stakeholder input prior to finalizing the RFP.

Comments from stakeholders are now due Friday, Aug. 21, 2020 by 5:00 p.m. CDT. Among the topics on which OHCA requests input are provider payments and services, including requiring MCOs to maintain a minimum level of reimbursement, timely payment of claims, standardization of provider services functions across plans and much more.

The OHA will be submitting comments, and hospitals are encouraged to submit comments to OHCA and OHA as well. For more information and instructions on how to comment, click here. (Rick Snyder)
