COVID-19 rural health response playbook available

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light a number of fractures in our country’s health care system, including those facing rural communities. In order to develop a meaningful plan to assist rural health care leaders, the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) sought the insight and direction of those on the frontlines within rural communities, including hospital administrators, clinicians and public health experts. With the help of these peers, CHA and its partners have distilled dozens of personal interviews, extensive literature review and an analysis of rural health care data into an emergency response playbook for rural health care delivery systems: Re-Imagining Leadership: A Pathway for Rural Health to Thrive in a COVID-19 World.

The playbook and the accompanying assessment tool are now available. These resources can serve as a framework that can be tailored to fit each community. This is a tool that can serve every rural health care system across the country, and the CHA generously offered it to OHA members.
