Marketplace hospital networks vary widely across Oklahoma

Oklahomans shopping for individual health insurance through the Healthcare.gov marketplace have a choice of plans from as few as two issuers to as many as five, with more options available in the more populous parts of the state. In 50 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties, Blue Cross and Coventry plans are the only choices available in the new marketplace.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield

Blue Cross and Blue Shield has marketplace plans available in all 77 counties of Oklahoma using its broad Blue Choice PPO provider network. Blue Preferred plans, which include fewer than half as many hospitals statewide as Blue Choice, are added in 68 counties. In the Oklahoma City and Lawton metro areas, Blue Cross offers its lower-cost Blue Advantage plans as an alternative. Blue Cross is also making multi-state plans available in all 77 counties.

Coventry

Coventry plans are also available in all 77 counties. Unlike Blue Cross, Coventry is not offering plans with broad PPO networks in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa markets. Coventry CareLink, available in the Tulsa area from Payne County to Wagoner County, uses the Hillcrest Healthcare System, Cleveland Area Hospital, and Wagoner Community Hospital. The Coventry plan for the Oklahoma City area (Canadian, Cleveland, and Oklahoma counties) is limited to the four metro INTEGRIS hospitals and Lakeside Women’s Hospital.

Aetna

Aetna is offering marketplace plans in only the Oklahoma City (seven county) and Tulsa (five county) metro areas. The hospital networks for these plans are fairly small.

CommunityCare

CommunityCare is offering individual marketplace HMO plans in four Tulsa-area counties, and in Oklahoma and Cleveland County. CommunityCare is using its narrow “Select” network for these plans.
