Health Improvement Initiatives

Oklahoma’s health rankings are dismal. In fact, Oklahoma currently ranks 43rd among all states in health. Poverty, lack of insurance, limited access to primary care, and inadequate prenatal care, along with risky health behaviors associated with these determinants, such as low fruit/vegetable consumption, low physical activity, and a high prevalence of smoking contributes to the poor health status of our citizens.

It is essential that Oklahoma hospitals take a lead role in improving the health of the citizens of our state. In 2011, the Oklahoma Hospital Association launched a new initiative aimed at improving the overall health statistics of our state. The initiative challenges hospitals to lead by example by empowering greater health and wellness in their employees, being the example in their communities, and working hand-in-hand with individuals and organizations in their communities for better health for all Oklahomans.
