Insurance bill modified

SB 478, Selling Insurance Across State Lines (Brown/Moore), passed the House floor last week after a floor substitute was filed by Rep. Moore that addressed our objections. The version of SB 478 that passed the House Insurance Committee eradicated the state health insurance mandates for coverage by out-of-state carriers in addition to providing a format for compacting across state lines. OHA asked its members to call the House of Representatives and oppose SB 478, which we thank you for doing. Your calls resulted in the bill author, Rep. Moore, removing the offending language and the bill now requires state insurance mandates to be followed by any company that is part of the compact. OHA has now removed its objections to SB 478. SB 478 has been assigned to a conference committee for further details to be worked out before the end of the legislative session on May 26.
