Free pediatric emergency training for rural providers offered

Posted on: 4/12/19

The Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) office at the University of Oklahoma is offering an exciting and free new program for rural providers that results in the certification and the becoming of a trainer in two different American Heart Association pediatric emergency care classes.

During the months of April through August, EMSC will be hosting multiple educational opportunities specifically for the hospitals and ambulance services that are the lifelines of rural Oklahoma. These educational sessions will prepare staff from your facility to become trainers in pediatric emergency care. These chosen trainers can return to your community with credentials and resources to train others. With support, this can become a sustainable model for keeping your community prepared for pediatric emergencies.

EMSC is asking each hospital to send one doctor, nurse, PA, paramedic, or EMT (basic or advanced), for each of the two types of train the trainer sessions in Oklahoma City at no cost. Upon successful completion, they will become a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) for your community. This will give them the capability of educating your team in American Heart Association pediatric care classes. The trainer(s) will continue to have a direct link with EMSC for ongoing support and resources.

Please identify one person for each class that you wish to make your PECC and register them here. You will select the class dates that work for your representatives and are asked to send a brief letter of recommendation. Click on the box next to PEARS or PALS to see an explanation of what is provided for the two classes.

This opportunity is for hospitals/EMS agencies outside of trauma regions 7 (Tulsa) and 8 (Oklahoma City). Please note this offer is also for EMS agencies, so encourage your local EMS to attend, preferably in the same classes as your hospital.
