SoonerCare payment rate increase approved

Posted on: 8/23/19

At their Aug. 21 board meeting, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) approved a five percent payment rate increase for acute hospitals, physicians, and many other types of providers. The increase will apply to SoonerCare (Medicaid) services provided on or after Oct. 1, 2019.

The rate increase was directed by the Oklahoma Legislature. The increase was made possible by revenue measures enacted last year, along with a formula-driven increase in the federal Medicaid matching rate for Oklahoma.

Payment rates for freestanding psychiatric hospitals and psychiatric residential treatment centers were not included in this increase. Those rates are set by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services rather than OHCA. Nursing home payment rates are being increased separately, and were also excluded from this action. (Rick Snyder)
