SoonerCare returned mail process to begin

Melody Anthony, Deputy State Medicaid Director, briefed the board of the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) Tuesday, on the agency’s plans to implement an Oklahoma residency verification process. Under this new policy SoonerCare members will lose eligibility if agency mail to the member is returned as unable to forward, and the agency makes a reasonable but unsuccessful attempt to verify the member’s current address.

The OHCA board approved the new returned mail rule at its May 21, 2019 meeting. It will go into effect upon signature by the governor.

Anthony said OHCA has developed outreach campaigns to inform members and providers of the new policy and the need for members to inform OHCA of address changes. The agency will be calling members and is working with providers and community groups to spread the information. They also plan a digital and social media information campaign, and will make it easier for members to update their contact information online.

Hospitals and other providers should participate in one of three offerings of an educational webinar on the new process for requiring SoonerCare members to keep their addresses up to date in order to have continued SoonerCare eligibility. The webinar will highlight outreach efforts that OHCA will be making to members whose mail has been returned to OHCA and how providers can assist in these efforts.
